Richard Cesari likes to say that a USB cable is not a piece of jewelry. Esprit is not trying to impress the eye, and the goal is for the USB cable to disappear once the music begins.
The Esprit Lumina USB Audio Cable is a USB-A to USB-B cable from Esprit's Lumina range. Each Lumina USB cable is made by hand in Confolens, in France's Charente region, in 1, 1.5 and 3 m.
Heritage
Esprit describes Lumina as an uncompromising range, designed to reach a higher level of realism and musical coherence, and the Lumina USB cable shares that brief. In the company's words, every Lumina link benefits from an advanced design, and the Lumina USB cable is one of those links. Richard Cesari has been making cables since 1996, and the Lumina USB cable carries three decades of that work. Esprit validates every new cable by ear before releasing it, and the Lumina USB cable went through that process.
Made by hand in Confolens
Esprit's team designs and assembles the Lumina USB cable by hand in its workshop in Confolens, Charente. Richard Cesari insists that assembly counts as much as materials, so each Lumina USB cable is checked at every stage of the work. The first complete check of the Lumina USB cable is made by the person who built it, and nothing moves on until it has been validated.
How it sounds
Esprit describes the sound of the Lumina USB cable as more fluid, dynamic and balanced, with a more stable stage, remarkable articulation and a transparency that reveals the slightest nuance.
The Lumina USB cable separates its paths: data: 90-ohm on air pure silver twinax; power: star quad. Conductors in the Lumina USB cable are pure silver, insulated in PET / high-temperature polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Esprit describes the shield of the Lumina USB cable as non-floating, fully shielded, second order filtering. For Esprit, a cable such as the Lumina USB cable should simply let the system express what it can do. A well-designed cable cannot be heard, Richard Cesari says, and that is the standard the Lumina USB cable is held to.
Choosing your USB cable
The Lumina USB cable is level 6 of Esprit's nine, above Aura and below Eureka. The Lumina USB cable comes in 1, 1.5 and 3 m lengths.
