Why Choose the H16-AVP
At the heart of the DAC section is AKM's AK4458, a 32-bit, eight-channel DAC with VELVET SOUND architecture, whose low-distortion design and 32-bit digital filtering preserve the subtle textures, dialogue detail and ambient cues that give recordings their sense of space. The analog circuitry that follows uses Texas Instruments OPA167x op-amps, developed for audio, with rail-to-rail output for headroom into relatively low-impedance loads.
Twelve balanced XLR outputs at 4Vrms cover a complete 7.1.4 system, and balanced connections reject noise picked up along cable runs, which suits installations with several amplifiers or active speakers placed around the room.
The H16 decodes immersive soundtracks from HDMI sources and passes 4K HDR video through to the display, so a television, console or Blu-ray player can feed a multichannel system built from separate components. Its integrated room calibration measures and corrects room EQ, channel levels and speaker distances in one step, with manual adjustment available afterward.
Pure mode, the default, decodes the audio and sends it on with no DSP processing. Direct, Stereo and Multi CH modes add bass management and speaker calibration as needed, and Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmix stereo or multichannel sources to the full speaker layout. Crossovers for each speaker group are adjustable from 40Hz to 180Hz.
