About the Silent Angel Rhein ZX
Silent Angel Rhein ZX is the flagship of the Rhein music server line: a full-size digital music hub with Roon Core built in, an OCXO master clock and a built-in linear power supply. Bought from HiFi Boutique, an authorized Silent Angel dealer, it comes with a USA-based warranty and local dealer support.
Silent Angel describes ZX as a native Roon Server: "With Roon Core built in, there is no need for an external NAS or computer." It runs your library and streaming services, handles real-time transcoding and upsampling, and feeds your DAC directly over USB, I2S, AES/EBU, coaxial or optical.
Roon Server, built in
An Intel Core i5-12450H processor with 8 cores and 12 threads and 32 GB of DDR4 memory give ZX the headroom for Roon Core, DSP and simultaneous lossless playback to up to 10 endpoints, each room with its own music and volume. HQPlayer NAA, DLNA renderer, AirPlay 2, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Amazon Music HD are supported alongside built-in TIDAL and Qobuz in the VitOS Orbiter app.
Clock, power and noise control
A ±0.05 ppm studio-grade OCXO master clock keeps digital jitter low, and a 25 MHz BNC input with an internal/external switch lets you upgrade to an external master clock such as the Genesis GX. Power comes from a custom AC linear power supply inside the chassis. The design is fully fanless, with a CNC-machined pure copper heatsink working with the dual-layer 5 mm 6061 aluminum chassis, and a ground terminal with a ground/floating switch helps tame ground-loop hum in multi-component systems.
Outputs and resolution
The XMOS XU316 USB audio stage and the I2S output (HDMI physical interface) reach PCM 768 kHz/32-bit and DSD512. AES/EBU, coaxial and optical outputs run to PCM 192 kHz/24-bit, with DSD64 via DoP. Two physically isolated Gigabit Ethernet ports separate audio traffic from background system services, and an M.2 NVMe expansion bay accepts PCIe 3.0 x4 2280 SSDs for your local library.

Pairing and system building
For a clean network feed, pair ZX with the Bonn NX reference-grade switch, which shares its full-width chassis, and add Silent Angel x DM Connect CAT8 Ethernet cables. If you want Roon Core in a compact chassis, compare the Rhein Z1 Plus.
